For a joint exploration of light in the contexts of installation work, performance and architecture, AAP teamed up with the the accomplished artist Gabriel Lester. The week long experiments and research addressed light’s spatial and temporal qualities as an inherent compositional and choreographic element in all creative work. The work was later exhibited at the SAC campus. This workshop was supplemented with a lecture by Gabriel followed by a conversation with the students and the faculty.

The research results served as the basis for the design of a new art and architecture academy or, more precisely, a new Städelschule, situated off the northern banks of the river Main.

Gabriel Lester was born in Amsterdam (1972) where he currently lives and works. His artworks consist of installations, performances, film and video. Other activities include commissioned artworks for public space, film directing, teaching, writing, and sound and video editing.
